Josefina Camus

Josefina Camus is a London based artist originally from Chile. She studied Literature and Dance in Chile and holds an MA in Arts with a Dance specialisation (Université Paris 8, 2016). Her work transits between performance, choreography and installation. She has developed her artistic experience in different cities, mostly in Santiago, Paris, and London, collaborating with local artists from different fields. Her interdisciplinary work explores ways to enlarge the use of perception, emphasizing the performance as a synesthetic experience, through the use of sculpture, sound, light, video and movement.

Her latest live performances and events include (IN)FUSION (Chile: online experience, 2020) Luminoides with Rodrigo Chaverini (Santiago: NAVE, 2019); Melt (London; Casa Festival, 2019); Melting Forms (Santiago: Casa O de Lastarria, 2019); Ellipsis Land with Pepa Ubera (London: Sadler’s Wells, TATE Modern, 2017); Démensions (Paris, Le 6B, 2014) and Silenthingks (Paris, Micandases, 2014). At present Josefina is associate artist of NAVE, creation and residency centre in Santiago de Chile.

Currently she is enrolled in her final year of a PhD practice-based programme at Goldsmiths University exploring the relationship between the self and its environment, researching the connection between art and healing based in ancestral knowledge. Her art practice creates energetic environments, understanding the corporeality as a container of polymorphic energies.

Josefina Camus es una artista interdisciplinaria con estudios en Literatura (Universidad de Chile), Danza (Universidad ARCIS), Magister en Artes con mención en Danza (Université Paris 8), su trabajo transita entre la performance, la coreografía y la instalación. Ha desarrollado su experiencia artística en distintas ciudades, principalmente Santiago, Paris y Londres, donde ha colaborado con artistas de distintas disciplinas.

Creando experiencias que conectan el cuerpo y su ambiente, sus propuestas buscan expandir y reorganizar las posibilidades perceptivas y sensoriales. En sus instalaciones utiliza diversos medios tales que movimiento, escultura, sonido, luz y video.

Sus últimos proyectos incluyen (IN)FUSION (Experiencia online, Chile, 2020); Luminoides con Rodrigo Chaverini (Santiago: NAVE, 2019); Melt (Londres; Casa Festival, 2019); Formas Derritiéndose (Santiago: Casa O de Lastarria, 2019); Ellipsis Land en colaboración con Pepa Ubera (Londres: Sadler’s Wells, TATE Modern, 2017); Démensions (Paris, Le 6B, 2014) y Silenthingks (Paris, Micandases, 2014). Actualmente Josefina es artista asociada en el Centro de creacion y residencia NAVE, Santiago de Chile.

En el presente cursa su ultimo año de doctorado basado en la practica en el departamento de Fine Arts en Goldsmiths University of London investigando la relación entre la corporalidad humana y el medio ambiente. Estudiando conocimientos de sanacion ancestral su practica crea ambientes energéticos, explorando modos de transformación.
